"The Anointing"

You may watch this Newsletter in a video HERE.

1 John 2:20-21
But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and you know all things. 21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and that no lie is of the truth.
NKJV

1 John 2:26-27
These things I have written to you concerning those who try to deceive you. 27 But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him.

Introduction:

According to John, every believer has the anointing, and it is the anointing that breaks the yoke as it abides in them. It is high time to walk in that anointing and let it operate in our lives. We should be claiming territories like the Old Testament prophets who called down fire and confronted prelates. Our testimonies ought to reflect the teaching we have received by it and our reliance on it. All things pertaining to life and godliness emanate from the anointing which lives in us.

In the New Testament, the definition for the word "anointing" incorporates the use of anointing oil as well as an equipping tool for the saints.

NT:5545
chrisma (khris'-mah); from NT:5548; an unguent or smearing, i.e. (figuratively) the special endowment ("chrism") of the Holy Spirit:
KJV - anointing, unction.

Unfortunately, not everyone is conversant about their personal anointing. Everyone seems to know what "anointed" preaching entails. They also know when preaching lacks the element of power generated by the anointing. What congregations have not been taught is the endowment placed in them. Imagine a gathering where those attending expressed themselves through Spirit-infused anointing. Every word spoken would drip with freshness from on high. Miracles would have to happen; revelation would be common place. The tyranny of the compromised church could not exist. The flow of unity would overwhelm any conflict and there would be a blessing underlying homes and hearts, all of which would last longer than the trip to the exit doors.

Under the anointing, real ministry would take place, for Jesus ministered through the anointing and so must we.

Luke 4:18-19:
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
19 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.
NKJV

Jesus' identical anointing abides in us. Just as Jesus worked under His Spirit- anointing in order to affect the lives of those in the various categories of need — so can we. Reviewing every category mentioned above reveals the huge scope of personal need found in the human condition. Envision the propensity of a great outpouring of appreciation coming from those being released from the grip of the enemy because of your anointing.

Jesus welcomed the anointing that Isaiah prophesied hundreds of years before.

Isaiah 61:1-3:
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me,
Because the Lord has anointed Me
To preach good tidings to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives,
And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord,
And the day of vengeance of our God;
To comfort all who mourn,
3 To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified."
NKJV

Jesus was anointed for this specific work of boundless opportunity. If one will analyze these passages, there are no parameters the Spirit-anointing must observe. Freedom of expression begins with the anointing. Once someone utilizes this gift, there is no turning back because of what is released in them. A believer receives elevated power which changes his or her life and the way they perceive their role in Him.

The early church knew this.

The disciples put their anointing to task and were amazed at what could be accomplished through it.

Mark 6:12-13:
So, they went out and preached that people should repent. 13 And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them.
NKJV

Yes, anointed ones, using the "oil of anointing" to heal, raises the level of demand put upon it. However, the Spirit-anointing can stand the pressure. Notice the number of those affected by their actions. How many were healed? (All of them.)

Notice now this passage in second Corinthians.

2 Corinthians 1:17-22:
17 Therefore, when I was planning this, did I do it lightly? Or the things I plan, do I plan according to the flesh, that with me there should be Yes, Yes, and No, No? 18 But as God is faithful, our word to you was not Yes and No. 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us — by me, Silvanus, and Timothy — was not Yes and No, but in Him was Yes. 20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us. 21 Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and has anointed us is God, 22 who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.

Community and fellowship engendered by the Spirit-anointing is not the same as that brought about by church suppers. Your anointing draws upon the anointing in others and there grows a rich congruity of thought and fervor in that environ. Those who are conscious of and are operative in the anointing wish to be around those of like faith and order — this is the church in real terms.

Acts 10:36-43:
The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ — He is Lord of all — 37 that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. 39 And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree. 40 Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly, 41 not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead. 42 And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead. 43 To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins."
NKJV

The apostles continued in His anointing, and it became their modus operandi as they emulated His work as their own. There is no greater example of the power of the anointing than the apostle Stephen during his final message to the Jews. He was irresistible. The anointing made him so. Peter also found his message on the day of Pentecost to be under the same anointing. Barriers are broken and resistance is shattered by the anointing.

Even in the Old Testament, the evidence of this truth is manifest. When Isaiah prophesied about Cyrus, he was not even born yet. Cyrus would experience great achievements because of God's gifted anointing.

Isaiah 45:1-3:
Thus says the Lord to His anointed,
To Cyrus, whose right hand I have held —
To subdue nations before him
And loose the armor of kings,
To open before him the double doors,
So that the gates will not be shut:
2 'I will go before you
And make the crooked places straight;
I will break in pieces the gates of bronze
And cut the bars of iron.
3 I will give you the treasures of darkness
And hidden riches of secret places,
That you may know that I, the Lord,
Who call you by your name,
Am the God of Israel.

All through the Old Testament are evidences of the separating power of the anointing. Here, the oil of anointing caused sanctification to take place, either in objects used for holy purposes or in the person of those occupying holy office.

Aaron and his sons were anointed with oil in order to be priests. Hebrew terminology for anointing expresses the separating power of the anointing.

Exodus 40:12-15:
12 "Then you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the tabernacle of meeting and wash them with water. 13 You shall put the holy garments on Aaron, and anoint him and consecrate him, that he may minister to Me as priest. 14 And you shall bring his sons and clothe them with tunics. 15 You shall anoint them, as you anointed their father, that they may minister to Me as priests; for their anointing shall surely be an everlasting priesthood throughout their generations."
NKJV

The anointing still separates and consecrates! Note the definition in Hebrew.

Hebrew OT:4899 mashiyach (maw-shee'-akh); from OT:4886; anointed; usually a consecrated person (as a king, priest, or saint); specifically, the Messiah:
KJV - anointed, Messiah

Objects were anointed to show their spiritual place. For instance, Jacob put anointing oil on a pillar in the place his name was changed to Israel (Genesis 35:7).

Moses anointed the tabernacle (Leviticus 8:10-12):
Also, Moses took the anointing oil, and anointed the tabernacle and all that was in it, and consecrated them. 11 He sprinkled some of it on the altar seven times, anointed the altar and all its utensils, and the laver and its base, to consecrate them. 12 And he poured some of the anointing oil on Aaron's head and anointed him, to consecrate him.

Persons received special anointing for special positions: Saul, David, Solomon. When Samuel consecrated Saul with anointing oil, he was changed to another man. Saul even prophesied when in the presence of the prophets. (The anointing in your life is stirred by the anointing in other people. It is efficacious to associate with those of the anointing.)

1 Samuel 10:1-8 Saul:
Then Samuel took a flask of oil and poured it on his head, and kissed him and said: "Is it not because the Lord has anointed you commander over His inheritance? 2 When you have departed from me today, you will find two men by Rachel's tomb in the territory of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say to you, 'The donkeys which you went to look for have been found. And now your father has ceased caring about the donkeys and is worrying about you, saying, "What shall I do about my son?"' 3 Then you shall go on forward from there and come to the terebinth tree of Tabor. There three men going up to God at Bethel will meet you, one carrying three young goats, another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a skin of wine. 4 And they will greet you and give you two loaves of bread, which you shall receive from their hands. 5 After that you shall come to the hill of God where the Philistine garrison is. And it will happen, when you have come there to the city, that you will meet a group of prophets coming down from the high place with a stringed instrument, a tambourine, a flute, and a harp before them; and they will be prophesying. 6 Then the Spirit of the Lord will come upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man. 7 And let it be, when these signs come to you, that you do as the occasion demands; for God is with you. 8 You shall go down before me to Gilgal; and surely, I will come down to you to offer burnt offerings and make sacrifices of peace offerings. Seven days you shall wait, till I come to you and show you what you should do."

Saul, being one of God's anointed is what caused David to honor him. Even when Saul was in spiritual decline, David refused to depose him. The anointing is a defining factor in one's life.

David understood the spiritual investment God makes on those of the anointing, for he was anointed himself.

I Samuel 16:13: David:
Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward.

Note how David honored Saul because of the anointing.

I Samuel 24:6,7:
"The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the Lord's anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord." 7 So David restrained his servants with these words, and did not allow them to rise against Saul.

Our reverence of the anointing causes us to do the same within the ranks of Christendom. It is the Lord who honors and protects His anointed ones.

Psalms 105:13-15:
When they went from one nation to another,
From one kingdom to another people,
14 He permitted no one to do them wrong;
Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes,
15 Saying, "Do not touch My anointed ones,
And do My prophets no harm."
NKJV

Ah, world, it is time to recognize the harm your minions have done to the saints. You have broken the commandment of the Lord with your overreach. You stand guilty before the tribunal of heaven for your persecutions of God's anointed and His prophets.

But the Lord oversees His anointing.

Psalms 20:6:
Now I know that the Lord saves His anointed;
He will answer him from His holy heaven
With the saving strength of His right hand.

Psalms 28:8:
The Lord is their strength,
And He is the saving refuge of His anointed.

So important is the anointing that Zechariah discovered the constant presence of anointed ones before the Lord day and night.

Zechariah 4:11-14:
Then I answered and said to him, "What are these two olive trees — at the right of the lampstand and at its left?" 12 And I further answered and said to Him, "What are these two olive branches that drip into the receptacles of the two gold pipes from which the golden oil drains?"

13 Then he answered me and said, "Do you not know what these are?"

And I said, "No, my lord."

14 So he said, "These are the two anointed ones, who stand beside the Lord of the whole earth."

One last thought:

Can the anointing on one's life be transferred to someone else? Well, the mantle of Elijah fell on Elisha and could be considered a "transfer." God told Elijah to anoint Elisha to take his place. (At Cane Ridge, Ky, after visiting the building which housed an early revival in the U.S., a man came up to me and sought to transfer the anointing upon his life to me. He passed away shortly afterwards. Since I never had considered such a "transfer," I hesitatingly received it. I do think the mantle of one person can be bestowed on another. There is evidence of handing the baton to another. Of this I am sure, my anointing speaks to other's anointing, and it always occasions a blessing.)

MISSIONS REPORT:

From Pastor Samuel and Anusuya Karunanithi; International Missionaries
Founder and President of Living Word International Outreach, USA:

Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Karunanithi are planning to go to Israel July 4-19. They will be ministering in an Ethiopian church, an Arab church and are believing God to minister in a Messianic Church as well. Dr. Karunanithi is a board member of Oliver Evangelistic Association. They have asked for our prayers, and we are asking all of our readers and partners to remember them in your prayers for safety as they travel and anointing in their ministering.

From: Frank and Hily Carrel

Long-time friends, Frank and Hily Carrel, are now back home in Butuan City, Philippines. Hily is a native of that region and retired there after a nursing career as a Certified Nursing Assistant [CNA] in the US. They are a missions-minded family and have helped many projects in their ministry. Frank was a board member of Oliver Evangelistic Association (OEA) for a few years before entering foreign service assignments in Iraq and Kuwait.

Currently, they are pastoring a small congregation that has a temporary shed building for a church. In the pictures below, you can see their efforts to mill lumber to be used in erecting a permanent building. Frank is desirous to speed the project forward with help from OEA. The church members will help with some of the work, but they will have to hire a carpenter and a carpenter's assistant, which was in the original building estimate. The cost of both of these workers is only $22.50 a day for both workers for 78 days of work approximately. Also a Tu-og tree was cut already, and the lumber is drying out under a tent tarpaulin [the 5th structure], due to the recent heavy rains. OEA will furnish raw materials. OEA sent the first installment May 16, using funds provided by our contributors.

The Carrel's are Bible believing, faith people who desire to build a debt free structure and have it lend a degree of permanency to their area. They will keep in touch with pictures of the project as they progress. Hily has expertise in construction and will serve as contractor. OEA is glad to be of help to this couple.
